If Mazda doesn’t offer pillar badges, then the aftermarket will. Calling it today.

I mean... I guess you’ve got to have something to occupy that acre of sheetmetal.

It’s the perfect solution. Mazda gets to maintain the aggressive proportions of the concept, while also getting to spice up the daylight opening with a retro badge. Maybe it can say “SPCCI” or something to indicate the Skyactiv-X models too.

Can I get windows there so one can actually see out of the back of it?

In my experience, it’s not the C-pillar that gets you, it’s the B-pillar.
I learned to drive on a Fiat 500 Abarth, which had a B-pillar that blocked the driver’s-side quarter window completely. Look over your left shoulder and stare into... nothing. Complete blind spot on the left.
I have a feeling the Mazda won’t have that problem.

This.

I’ve had the chance to spend a decent amount of time behind the wheel of many varieties of modern cars (rentals for work travel) and, while the B pillar is brutal on “look over the left shoulder” I’ve found what’s behind there is just as bad, especially when the rearview mirror looks like it’s going down a tunnel with a pinpoint of window at the back (like a new Camaro). This will have that.
I don’t even want to imagine trying to see to back out of a parking space with that C pillar.

There. I fixed it. I am sure someone with more time and skills can do better than my MSpaint hack job,

Alternatively, fake vents. Or rockets.
Or better yet...bring back landau.

That doesn’t solve any visibility issues though. Mazda would just have a black-painted “window” that’s actually just C-pillar.
Like a Camry.
Not okay. #fakewindows

The badge could pop out for maneuvering rockets like on the next-gen Tesla Roadster... Zoom-Zoom indeed!

wut?
I meant to show those should have been real windows. Why would I go through that effort to suggest they be the fake ones?

So, how long until the side windows are just gone?

With the 3's packaging, it’s probably impossible to fit any meaningful daylight opening in that small of a space. Most cars just have the “Floating Roof” now.
Good luck seeing anything through that little window after the C-pillar...
The better option for visibility is a wagon:

Several months.
It’ll be just a giant retro Mazda badge across the whole side of the car.

A Mazda 3 Wagon? AHAHAHAH like THAT’s going to happen.
OK I guess we just have to hope their Blind Spot system is real good now.

The better option is lower door sills

And blind spot monitoring will be a $7,000 option

Why not have a camera hidden in the badge that projects the view onto an OLED screen on the other side of the pillar. You get to see, they get to charge an ungodly amount extra, and cool concept structural integrity stays intact.

Dammit! I thought that was my idea. I’m always too late.

I like that you used the old school emblem.

Because a window will still work in 5 years.

I actually really like the looks of the X2. Especially in this blue that I saw parked in the local mall the other day.

Yeah, the cost of repairing it was part of what I was thinking with the “charge an ungodly amount extra” portion of the comment.
